Egypt 8-Day Itinerary 2026 — Cairo, Nile Cruise, Luxor, Aswan & Abu Simbel

Egypt is a once-in-a-lifetime journey through 5,000 years of history — the last surviving wonder of the ancient world at Giza, temples that dwarf everything around them, and a slow sail down the timeless Nile. This 8-day itinerary covers the classic route — Cairo, a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, and Abu Simbel — with transport notes throughout. For background and entry, see the Egypt travel guide for Indians.

How to reach Egypt

Fly into Cairo (✈️) from India via one stop. Within Egypt, this plan uses a short domestic flight (✈️) to Luxor/Aswan, a Nile cruise boat (⛴️) between Luxor and Aswan, and road transfers (🚗) for Abu Simbel and city sights. Indians typically need an e-visa or visa on arrival — confirm before booking.

Day 1 — Arrive Cairo 🛬

Land in Cairo and settle in. Depending on arrival time, ease in with the lively Khan el-Khalili bazaar and a first glimpse of the city on the Nile.

Day 2 — Giza Pyramids & Egyptian Museum

The big day: the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, ideally early to beat heat and crowds (camel or buggy rides optional). Afternoon at the Egyptian Museum (or the new Grand Egyptian Museum) to see Tutankhamun’s treasures and mummies. Optional sound-and-light show at the pyramids in the evening.

Day 3 — Cairo to Luxor ✈️, East Bank

Take a short domestic flight to Luxor (✈️), the world’s greatest open-air museum. Visit the Karnak Temple complex and Luxor Temple on the East Bank. Board your Nile cruise boat (⛴️) for the night.

Day 4 — Luxor West Bank, sail south ⛴️

Cross to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings (royal tombs including Tutankhamun’s), the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Colossi of Memnon. An optional hot-air balloon at sunrise over the Theban necropolis is unforgettable. Sail south, stopping at the Edfu and Kom Ombo temples.

Day 5 — Cruise to Aswan ⛴️

Continue the gentle Nile sail to Aswan, the most relaxed of Egypt’s cities. Visit the Philae Temple (reached by motorboat), the High Dam, and the unfinished obelisk. Enjoy a felucca sail around Elephantine Island at sunset — a serene highlight.

Day 6 — Abu Simbel day trip 🚗

An early road transfer (🚗) or short flight takes you to the colossal Abu Simbel temples of Ramses II, relocated stone-by-stone to escape the rising Nile — among the most awe-inspiring sights in Egypt. Return to Aswan; disembark the cruise or overnight.

Day 7 — Aswan to Cairo ✈️

Fly back to Cairo (✈️). Use the afternoon for sights you missed — Coptic Cairo, the Citadel and the Alabaster Mosque, or more time at the museum and bazaar.

Day 8 — Depart Cairo 🛫

Final morning for souvenirs (papyrus, spices, cotton) before your transfer to the airport (🛫). With extra days, add a Red Sea beach break at Hurghada or more time in Cairo.

Transport summary

The itinerary blends domestic flights (Cairo–Luxor, Aswan–Cairo) to save long desert drives, a multi-night Nile cruise for the Luxor–Aswan leg (your floating hotel), and road transfers for Abu Simbel and city touring. A guided package or private guide is strongly recommended to bring the history alive and handle logistics.

What it costs & tips

Costs vary widely with cruise standard and season; a comfortable guided trip with a good cruise, domestic flights and entries is the bulk of the budget, plus international flights. Visit in the cooler months (October–April); summer is intensely hot in the south. Dress modestly, carry sun protection and cash (USD/EGP) for tips (baksheesh is customary), and confirm your e-visa in advance. Use reputable operators for tickets and transfers.
