⚠ NEW APPLICATIONS STOPPED

Verified facts for existing holders: lounge access is 2 complimentary vouchers/quarter on ₹1 lakh quarterly spend; Priority Pass for international (6/year) only after 4 card transactions; reward rate 4 RP per ₹150; renewal waiver at ₹3 lakh annual spend. HDFC Regalia Credit Card Review

HDFC Bank · Entry-premium lifestyle & travel · Visa Signature / Mastercard World
Our score: 7.2 / 10 (existing cardholders)
Annual fee: ₹2,500 + GST (waivable at ₹3L)
Reward rate: 4 RP per ₹150 + 5-10× SmartBuy
Lounge: 2 domestic/qtr on ₹1L spend + 6 intl/yr (Priority Pass)
Forex: 2%
Last reviewed: April 2026. Important: HDFC Bank has stopped sourcing the Regalia credit card — new applications are not accepted. Existing cardholders continue to earn and enjoy all benefits. The newer Regalia Gold is the publicly applicable successor. Key 2023 rule changes still apply: (1) From 1 Feb 2023, cashback redemption and SmartBuy flight/hotel redemption each capped at 50,000 RP per calendar month. (2) From 1 Oct 2023, maximum 50,000 RP can be earned per statement cycle. (3) HDFC-wide 1% transaction fees apply on fuel > ₹15K/txn, utility > ₹50K/txn, rent via wallet apps, and 3rd-party education apps.
TL;DR: HDFC Regalia is the original entry-premium card from HDFC, pre-dating Regalia Gold and Infinia. It’s not accepting new applicants but remains active for existing holders. The card still offers meaningful value — 4 RP per ₹150 base, 5-10× accelerators via SmartBuy, one of the lowest HDFC forex rates (2%), milestone-based lounge access (2 domestic/qtr on ₹1L spend + 6 international via Priority Pass), and a good annual-spend bonus (15,000 RP at ₹8L). For existing cardholders spending ₹3-8L/year, it still earns its place. New applicants should look at Regalia Gold (₹2,500) or Diners Club Privilege (₹1,000).
What we like
  • Low 2% forex markup — one of the few HDFC cards under 3.5%, great for international spend

  • SmartBuy 5-10× accelerators on flights, hotels, groceries

  • Good Food Trail Program — up to 7.5% off at partner restaurants

  • From 1 Feb 2023: Cashback redemption capped at 50,000 RP/month; SmartBuy flight/hotel redemption capped at 50,000 RP/month
  • Reward points expire after 2 years from accumulation; if card unused for 365 days, RP are nullified
  • Insurance spends cap at 2,000 RP/day
  • 1% transaction fees (HDFC-wide, since Aug 2024): Fuel over ₹15K/txn, Utility over ₹50K/txn, Rent via wallet apps (CRED/PayTM/MobiKwik/etc), Education via 3rd-party apps — each attracts 1% fee on entire amount, capped ₹3,000/txn. Insurance NOT treated as utility.

Compared with alternatives

Regalia Gold (₹2,500) — publicly applicable

HDFC’s newer variant. Similar fee, stronger milestone structure (vouchers + international credits), currently accepting new applications. Natural upgrade path.

Diners Club Privilege (₹1,000)

Lower fee, 8 lounges/year (milestone-based), 5× Swiggy/Zomato. Good entry point to HDFC Diners ecosystem.

Axis Privilege (₹1,500)

Similar positioning at a lower fee. Fewer accelerators but publicly applicable.

Amex Platinum Travel (₹5,000)

2× the fee but strong milestone vouchers (Taj/Marriott). Narrower merchant acceptance.

Who the HDFC Regalia is for

Existing Regalia cardholders spending ₹5-8 lakh per anniversary year — the card earns its ₹2,500 fee easily via the annual milestone (10K RP at ₹5L, 15K RP at ₹8L) plus base earn and SmartBuy accelerators. The 2% forex markup alone saves 1.5% vs most HDFC cards on international spend — material for ₹2L+ forex spend per year. Milestone-based lounge structure (2 domestic/qtr at ₹1L and 6 international Priority Pass visits) is adequate for moderate travellers.

Not the right card if: you’re a new applicant (not accepting), your annual spend is below ₹3 lakh (fee won’t recover via milestones), or you need unlimited / automatic lounge access — Regalia’s milestone gating limits it.

How to apply & how to cancel

Apply: Not accepting new applicants. HDFC has stopped sourcing the Regalia card. If you’re looking for a similar card, apply for Regalia Gold (same fee, publicly available) or Diners Club Privilege.

Existing cardholders — renewal: Renewal notices arrive 30 days before anniversary. Pay the ₹2,500 + GST fee (or confirm ₹3L spend waiver achieved).

Cancel: Call HDFC PhoneBanking (1800 202 6161). Clear dues; redeem Reward Points before closure (RP forfeited at close). Note: once cancelled, the card can’t be reactivated — HDFC is not issuing new Regalia cards.

Final verdict

For existing HDFC Regalia cardholders, the card still earns its place in 2026 — the 2% forex markup is genuinely competitive, the annual milestones deliver 10-15K RP for modest spend levels, and SmartBuy accelerators remain useful for travel bookings. The 2023 redemption caps (50K RP/month) only hurt very heavy redeemers. The 1 Oct 2023 statement-cycle earn cap (50K RP) also only matters for ₹18L+/cycle spenders.

For new applicants, Regalia is not available — look at Regalia Gold (publicly applicable, stronger milestone structure) or Diners Club Privilege (lower fee, similar positioning). If you currently hold Regalia and are offered an upgrade to Regalia Gold, the upgrade is generally worth it — similar fee, better milestones.

Frequently asked questions

Is HDFC Regalia still available for new applications?

No. HDFC Bank has stopped sourcing the Regalia credit card. Existing customers continue to enjoy all benefits, but new applications are not being accepted. HDFC’s publicly applicable equivalent is Regalia Gold.

What are the reward-point redemption caps?

From 1 Feb 2023: Cashback/statement credit redemption is capped at 50,000 RP per calendar month. SmartBuy flight and hotel redemption is also capped at 50,000 RP per calendar month. For select products/vouchers, up to 70% of the value can be redeemed via RP (rest must be paid by card).

How do the lounge vouchers work?

Domestic: You get up to 2 lounge vouchers per calendar quarter (for Self + Add-on combined), unlocked on minimum ₹1 lakh spend in the preceding calendar quarter. International: Priority Pass gives Self + Add-on up to 6 complimentary visits per year, available after using the Regalia card for a minimum of 4 transactions.

What happens to Reward Points if I don’t use my card?

Two rules apply: (1) RP are valid for 2 years from the date of accumulation — anything older expires. (2) If the card is not used for more than 365 consecutive days, all accumulated RP are nullified.

Can I upgrade from Regalia to Regalia Gold?

HDFC periodically offers upgrades to existing Regalia cardholders. If offered, the upgrade is typically a horizontal move — similar ₹2,500 fee, but with a stronger milestone structure (e.g., Travel credits, improved lounge). Spend aggregation benefits from the old card may not carry over.

What’s the foreign currency markup?

2% on international transactions — one of the lowest among HDFC cards. Additionally, a 1% DCC markup applies if you transact in Indian currency at an international location or with a merchant registered overseas (effective since earlier HDFC policy update).

Does Regalia earn RP on UPI payments?

Regalia does not have a RuPay variant, so direct UPI linking is not supported. The card can be added to Apple Pay / Google Pay / Samsung Pay for Visa/Mastercard-accepting merchants, but not for UPI.

Is there a spend-based renewal fee waiver?

Yes — spending ₹3,00,000 in net retail in the anniversary year waives the next year’s ₹2,500 renewal fee.

Data current as of April 2026. HDFC Bank has stopped sourcing this card for new applications; the information above reflects current T&C applicable to existing Regalia cardholders.
