HDFC Regalia Gold Credit Card Review
Boarding Edge — New Benefit (effective 15 May 2026)
HDFC introduced the Regalia Gold Boarding Edge Programme effective 15 May 2026. Upload your airline boarding pass on the HDFC SmartBuy portal and choose any 2 benefits per calendar quarter from the menu below. Vouchers for your selected benefits are issued, usable across partner brands.
- Spa access at participating wellness centres
- Local airport transfers via Uber
- Dining experiences at participating hotels
- Room upgrades at participating hotels
This is the key reason the Regalia Gold now stays competitive after the reward rate devaluation — frequent flyers who upload boarding passes get ~₹5,000–₹10,000 worth of curated experiences each quarter.
Lounge access — new structure from Q3 2026
Domestic lounges: 3 complimentary visits per calendar quarter, subject to spending ₹60,000 or more in the preceding calendar quarter. Applicable from the calendar quarter starting 1 July 2026.
Example: For lounge access in Jul–Sep 2026, you need to have spent ₹60,000+ during Apr–Jun 2026.
International lounges: 6 visits per year via Priority Pass — unchanged.
This is a meaningful change from the earlier “12 domestic visits per year” flat allocation — low-spend cardholders will lose lounge access entirely if they don’t clear the ₹60,000 quarterly threshold.
Revised fees (effective 15 May 2026)
- DCC markup: 1.75% on international transactions carried out in INR (either at international merchants, or at merchants located in India but registered in a foreign nation). Revised from the standard 3.5% forex markup for this specific transaction type.
- Card reissuance fee: ₹199 covers secure processing, monitored dispatch and handling when you request a lost / stolen / damaged card replacement.
- Joining fee fully returned as ₹2,500 gift voucher on card activation
- Welcome memberships: Swiggy One (1 year) + MMT Black Gold (1 year)
- 5× reward rate on 4 lifestyle brands: Myntra, Marks & Spencer, Reliance Digital, Nykaa
- 12 domestic + 6 international lounge visits/year (subject to July 2026 gating)
- Quarterly milestone ₹1.5L → ₹1,500 voucher × 4 = ₹6,000 annual vouchers possible
- Annual fee waived at ₹4L spend
- May 15, 2026 devaluation — earn rate dropped from 4/₹150 to 5/₹200 (~6% lower)
- July 1, 2026: Lounge access requires ₹60K spend in prior quarter — low-spend users lose free lounges
- 3.5% forex markup — uncompetitive for international spend
- 5× brand list is narrow (only 4 brands)
- Redemption value drops sharply outside SmartBuy (₹0.50/point vs ₹1 on SmartBuy)
- Category caps on utilities, wallet, rent, fuel (standard HDFC exclusions)

The May 2026 devaluation reduced the effective rate by about 6%.
5× accelerator (unchanged): 20 reward points per ₹150 spent on Myntra, Marks & Spencer, Reliance Digital, and Nykaa — effective 6.67% headline rate. Monthly cap applies (~1,500 bonus points/month per brand).
Redemption options: 1 point = ₹0.50 as statement credit; 1 point = ₹1 on SmartBuy flight/hotel bookings; conversion to airline miles at 1:1 (Flying Returns, Marriott Bonvoy, KrisFlyer 2:1). Reward points valid 2 years from earn date.
Exclusions and caps: Utilities capped at 2,000 pts/cycle; wallet loads, rent payments, tax, insurance, government, EMI conversions earn zero rewards. Fuel earns zero (but 1% surcharge waiver applies).

10 EDGE per ₹200 (5% headline). Broader partner transfer network. ₹500 more fee.
Amex Platinum Travel (₹5K) →
Step-up if you want milestone-heavy structure and Priority Pass. Needs ₹4L+ annual spend to break even.
Who the HDFC Regalia Gold is for
Regalia Gold is ideal if you spend ₹3-6 lakh/year on a mix of online (especially at 5× partner brands), dining, and travel. The welcome bundle + quarterly vouchers make it highly rewarding in Year 1. From Year 2, you need to hit ₹4L to retain (fee waiver) and ₹60K/quarter to keep lounge access — achievable for most mid-premium users.
Not the right card if: your annual spend is below ₹2L (won’t hit milestones, fee waiver or the new lounge threshold). Consider HDFC Millennia (LTF, 5% brand partners) instead. Also not right if you primarily shop outside the 5× brand list and want simple flat cashback — HDFC Swiggy or Axis ACE are better.
How to apply & how to cancel
Apply: Apply via hdfcbank.com/regalia-gold or in NetBanking (pre-approved for existing HDFC customers). Eligibility soft-pull is instant; full approval 3-5 business days; card delivery 7-10 days. Video-KYC available.
Cancel: Call PhoneBanking (1800 202 6161) or request closure in writing. Clear dues first; redeem reward points before closure (forfeited at closure). Renewal fee already debited is non-refundable after 30 days.
Final verdict
HDFC Regalia Gold remains one of the best value mid-premium cards at ₹2,500 — the welcome bundle (₹2.5K voucher + Swiggy One + MMT Black Gold) more than covers the fee in Year 1 even before you start earning. The May 2026 devaluation and July 2026 lounge gating are real, but a ₹5L+ annual spender still extracts ₹12-18K/year net value. Strong choice for mid-income professionals building into the HDFC credit ecosystem.
Frequently asked questions
What changed on 15 May 2026?
Base earn rate on Regalia Gold was revised from 4 reward points per ₹150 spent to 5 reward points per ₹200 spent. This reduces the effective earn rate from ~2.67% to ~2.5% (about 6% reduction in point earning).
What changes on 1 July 2026 for lounge access?
From 1 July 2026, complimentary airport lounge access (domestic and international via Priority Pass) requires a minimum spend of ₹60,000 in the preceding calendar quarter. Low-spend users lose free lounge entry for that quarter.
Is the ₹2,500 joining fee really returned?
Yes — upon first card use within 90 days of issuance, HDFC credits a ₹2,500 SmartBuy gift voucher. Usable across 30+ partner brands. Effectively makes the Year 1 card free.
Which 4 brands give 5× rewards?
Myntra, Marks & Spencer, Reliance Digital, and Nykaa. Earn 20 reward points per ₹150 (vs base 5 pts per ₹200). Monthly cap applies — ~1,500 bonus pts/month per brand typical.
How do I hit the quarterly ₹1.5L milestone?
Combined retail spends across the calendar quarter (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, etc.) — any eligible retail qualifies. At ₹50K/month typical household spend, you’ll hit ₹1.5L/quarter naturally.
Can I waive the renewal fee?

Yes — all HDFC premium cards access SmartBuy. Reward points redeem at 1 point = ₹1 via SmartBuy travel/shopping (vs ₹0.50 statement credit).
Is MMT Black Gold actually useful?
MMT Black Gold (normally ~₹3K/year) gives priority support, preferred rates, faster tier progression. Useful for MMT regulars. Must be activated separately via HDFC rewards portal within first 90 days.
Can I upgrade Regalia Gold to Diners Privilege or higher?
Yes — HDFC allows upgrade to Diners Privilege (₹2,500), Diners Black (₹10K) or Infinia (₹12.5K) based on usage history. Tenure carries over.
Does Regalia Gold support UPI?
No — Regalia Gold is on Visa Signature network, not RuPay. Direct card-on-UPI isn’t supported. Can link via Google Pay / PhonePe for Visa-accepting online merchants.
