Who this card is for

This is a highly specialised railway-travel card. It's not a general cashback or lifestyle card — the big value is concentrated in AC-class IRCTC bookings (AC1, AC2, AC3, Executive Chair, Chair Car) where you can claim up to 10% back. If you or your family take 4–6 AC train trips a year (or one regular Rajdhani/Vande Bharat route), this card's math works out strongly. It's also useful if you eat out frequently (3 RP per ₹125 on dining).

Reward structure

IRCTC AC rail tickets (the marquee)

Up to 10% value back on AC1, AC2, AC3, Executive Chair and Chair Car bookings made via www.irctc.co.in or the IRCTC mobile app. The 10% is delivered as reward points in cycles; watch SBI's terms for tier breakdowns (higher ticket values sometimes get lower-percentage back at very high price points).

Dining & utility standing instructions

3 RP per ₹125 (~1.2% at ₹0.50 per RP in fuel-free cases) on dining and standing-instructions on utility bills.

All other non-fuel spends

1 RP per ₹125 (~0.40%) — this is the unexciting base rate.

Milestone bonuses

  • 2,500 RP at ₹50,000 annual travel spend
  • 5,000 RP at ₹1,00,000 annual travel spend
Note on RP value: IRCTC SBI RPs redeem at ₹1 = 4 RP when used for IRCTC rail ticket bookings (best rate). Against other catalogues, value is closer to ₹0.25 per RP. Always redeem for railway tickets to maximise return.

Railway lounges

Up to 8 complimentary railway lounge visits per year (max 2 per quarter) at currently-supported stations:

  • New Delhi
  • Jaipur
  • Agra
  • Ahmedabad
  • Kolkata (Sealdah)

If you travel frequently to/from these stations, that's a clear ₹300–₹500 per visit of value (refreshments + AC waiting space).

What we like

10% is a genuinely strong number. For someone spending ₹25,000–₹50,000 a year on AC-class rail, the card saves ₹2,500–₹5,000 just on tickets — more than recovering its fee multiple times.
  • Railway lounge access at 5 stations is a practical perk rare travellers love
  • 1% saved on rail booking transaction charge adds up on heavy use
  • Dining 3 RP/₹125 (~1.2%) is a decent secondary benefit
  • Free add-on cards for family
  • Milestone bonuses (2,500 RP at ₹50K rail, 5,000 at ₹1L) reward frequent users

Where it falls short

  • General 1 RP / ₹125 (~0.40%) base rate is poor — don't use this for non-rail spends
  • 10% rail value is only for AC classes; Sleeper and 2S tickets earn the base rate
  • Fee waiver at ₹2L is high for a railway-specific card
  • Only 5 stations have lounges (limited geographic usefulness)
  • RP value drops outside rail redemption
  • No international lounge or travel insurance

Eligibility

  • Income: ₹3–5 lakh p.a. typical cutoff (not a high-income card)
  • Age: 21–70 (primary)
  • Credit score: 720+ recommended
  • Existing SBI/IRCTC relationship helps speed approval

Should you apply?

Apply if: You or your family travel 3+ times a year on Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Tejas, Vande Bharat, or any AC-class train. Also useful if you start/end journeys at Delhi/Jaipur/Agra/Ahmedabad/Sealdah for the lounges. The combined 10% rail return + lounges + milestones typically delivers ₹5K–₹10K annual benefit for an average rail-frequent user.

Skip if: Your rail travel is mostly Sleeper or 2S class (the 10% doesn't apply), or you want a general-purpose card. SBI Cashback (5% flat online including IRCTC) is a better all-rounder.

CSI Rating: 7.6 / 10

The bottom line

IRCTC SBI Premier is a category specialist that should only be in your wallet if rail travel is a real part of your life. The 10% AC class return is the industry's highest on rail; the lounges are a bonus for the 5 supported stations. For anyone making 4–6 AC class trips a year plus moderate dining, it pays back 2–4× its fee. For everyone else, it's a niche card that you'll under-use.

Verified against SBI Card's official product page and April 2026 listings. 10% rail return applies to AC class bookings via IRCTC only; non-AC tickets earn base rate. RP redemption value varies by path — rail redemption delivers the best value.
