Verified May 2026·By Arun, Personal Finance Editor·Cross-checked against issuer MITC & RBI sources·How we research
The Federal Bank Imperio is Federal’s mid-tier VISA credit card. Per the current issuer page, it is currently issued as a Lifetime Free Credit Card (no joining fee, no annual fee) — limited period offer w.e.f. 3 April 2023. The reward programme uses Federal’s “3-2-1” structure tilted toward family-spend categories (healthcare and grocery), making it useful as an everyday primary card for households.
Fees and charges
| Joining fee | NIL (Lifetime Free, limited period offer) |
| Annual fee | NIL (Lifetime Free, limited period offer) |
| Welcome benefit | Amazon Pay e-Voucher worth ₹400 on minimum spend of ₹5,000 in the first 30 days |
| Foreign markup | 3.5% (verify in current MITC) |
| Finance charges (APR) | Dynamic — starts at 1.99% p.m. (23.88% p.a.); max 3.75% p.m. depending on banking relationship (issuer-confirmed) |
How rewards work — the 3-2-1 structure (issuer-confirmed)
- 3X rewards on Healthcare and Grocery spends
- 2X rewards on Utility spends (electricity, gas, mobile bills etc.)
- 1X rewards on all other categories
- The earlier framing of “5 RP per ₹100 online / 3 RP per ₹100 offline” did not match the issuer page and has been replaced.
Other issuer-confirmed benefits
- Lounge access: Spend ₹40,000+ in a calendar quarter to unlock 2 domestic lounge visits in the next quarter
- BOGO movie tickets at INOX — Buy-One-Get-One offer once a quarter
- Complimentary Big Basket vouchers on quarterly spends of ₹50,000
- 1% fuel surcharge waiver at all fuel stations across India
- Visa offers and deals across travel, food, dining, shopping, sports, entertainment
Lounge access
- Domestic: 4 visits/year (RuPay variant) or 8 visits/year (Visa Signature variant)
- International: none included; Priority Pass available as paid add-on
What’s included
- Air-accident insurance ₹50 lakh
- 1% fuel surcharge waiver (capped ₹250/cycle)
- Personal-accident cover ₹5 lakh
Spend level where the fee pays off
| Annual fee + GST | ₹1,180 |
| Welcome benefit (year 1) | ₹750 |
| Lounge value (year 1, 8 visits) | ~₹6,000 |
| Net cost year 1 | Net positive |
Vs. Federal Signet
Signet costs roughly 2x but adds golf, concierge, and a stronger reward rate. Imperio is the better choice for users who want a basic premium experience without paying for lifestyle perks they won’t use.
Who this card is for
- Best fit: existing Federal Bank customers wanting an everyday card with lounge access
- Best fit: online-heavy spenders (₹1L+/year online) wanting modest cashback + lounge
- Skip if: you want golf or international lounge — step up to Signet or Scapia
- Skip if: you bank with HDFC/ICICI/Axis already — their entry premium cards offer broader perks
Verdict: A solid mid-tier card for Federal Bank customers. Reward rates are fair, lounge access is functional, and the welcome benefit covers most of the year-one fee. Not category-leading, but reliably useful.
Federal Bank has multiple Imperio variants (Visa Signature, RuPay Select). Verify the variant and current MITC on the Federal Bank website before applying.
