Axis Atlas — for accessible travel rewards
Best for: Salaried professionals with ₹5-15L spend, 2-4 international trips/year.
Strengths:
- EDGE Miles transfer to Air India, Vistara (now Air India after merger), Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Emirates Skywards, Marriott Bonvoy at favourable ratios (typically 2:1 to 5:4)
- 5× earn on travel partners (Yatra, MakeMyTrip via Travel Edge)
- 2,500 EDGE Miles at ₹3L milestone, 5,000 at ₹7.5L, 5,000 at ₹15L
- Lower fee waiver (₹3L) than most premium cards
Effective return: ~3-5% on travel-heavy spend (assuming airline transfer redemption).
Axis Magnus Burgundy — for HNI Burgundy banking customers
Best for: Axis Burgundy Private banking customers (₹15L+ AUM), heavy international travellers, Marriott loyalty.
Strengths:
- 12 EDGE Miles per ₹200 = 6% earn rate (3× Atlas’s 2%)
- Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status — room upgrades, free breakfast, late checkout, free Wi-Fi
- Hilton Honors Gold status
- Unlimited domestic + 6 international lounge visits
- 2% forex markup (vs 3.5% Atlas) — saves on international transactions
- Up to 25,000 EDGE Miles annually for Burgundy customers
Eligibility constraint: Burgundy Private banking required. Cannot apply directly without the banking relationship.
Effective return: ~5-7% on aligned spend. The hotel status alone can deliver ₹40-80K of value/year for active Marriott users (free breakfast at ₹3-5K/stay × 8 stays = ₹24-40K).
Worked spend comparison — ₹15 L annual
Spend mix: 30% travel + 20% dining + 50% general.
| Card | Reward earned | Status / milestones | Net (after fee+GST) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Axis Atlas | ~30,000 EDGE Miles (~₹15-20K via airline transfer) | ~12,500 milestone bonus = ~₹7K + 2,500 welcome | ~₹17,000 (after ₹5,900 fee+GST) |
| Axis Magnus Burgundy | ~90,000 EDGE Miles (~₹40-50K via airline transfer) | Marriott Gold + 1 free night + 25,000 milestone | ~₹50-70K (depends on Marriott usage) |
Magnus Burgundy delivers 2-4× value if you (a) qualify for Burgundy banking, (b) use Marriott status actively, (c) redeem EDGE Miles via airline transfers.
The Vistara → Air India transition
Vistara merged with Air India in late 2024. EDGE Miles previously transferred to Vistara Club Vistara now transfer to Air India FlyingReturns programme. Transfer ratios remained similar; integration ongoing. Axis bank has updated terms to reflect Air India FlyingReturns as primary domestic transfer partner.
When to pick Atlas instead of Magnus Burgundy
- You’re not eligible for Burgundy banking. Atlas is the practical premium-travel card for non-Burgundy customers.
- You don’t stay at Marriott / Hilton. Without using hotel status, Magnus Burgundy’s premium loses value.
- Your travel is mostly domestic. Atlas’s domestic lounge access (8 visits) is sufficient; Magnus Burgundy’s “unlimited” is overkill.
- You want a single travel card without HNI banking commitment.
