⚠ CRITICAL CORRECTION (April 2026)
Earlier versions wrongly described this as a “Lifetime-free” card. Per AU Bank issuer page (Apr 2026): Annual Card Membership Fee ₹249 + GST; 2nd-year+ waiver on ₹1,00,000 retail spend in previous anniversary year. Reward structure: 2X RP on retail spends 1st-5th of every month, 15X RP on accelerator categories (groceries, dept stores, movies, dining), 1 RP/₹100 elsewhere. Earlier “3% online / 1% offline” claim looks like Altura+ data mixed in by mistake.

Who this is for

The AU Bank Xcite is a family of three low-annual-fee credit cards (Xcite ₹249, plus two siblings) on AU Bank's SwipeUp platform. It targets first-time credit users, people looking for a no-fee card with meaningful rewards, and those attracted to AU's railway lounge benefits. Three variants cover entry (Basic), spend-based cashback (Ace), and premium rewards (Ultra) — letting you pick based on your spending profile.

The 3 Xcite variants

Xcite (basic) — the headline variant

  • Base: 3 RP per 100 spent on retail
  • 15X accelerator: 15 RP per 100 on groceries, departmental stores, movies, and dining
  • 2x bonus: Double RP on all retail spends made between the 1st and 5th of every month
  • RP redemption: 1 RP = 0.25 (so 15 RP/100 = 3.75% effective)
15 RP/100 on grocery/dining/movies = 3.75% effective cashback. For a lifetime-free card, that's exceptional in the Indian market. Add the 1-5th-of-month 2x boost and you can hit 7.5% on groceries in the first week of each month.

Travel & lifestyle benefits

  • Railway lounges: 2 complimentary railway lounge visits per quarter = 8/year (rare perk)
  • Domestic airport lounges (Ultra only): From 10 April 2026, require 50,000 spend in a calendar quarter to unlock next-quarter lounge access
  • Fuel surcharge waiver: 1% on 400-5,000 transactions, max 200/cycle
  • Device protection: Complimentary mobile phone protection plan
  • Extended warranty: 1-year extended warranty on mobiles, laptops, tablets, white goods

What we like

Lifetime-free with 3.75% on grocery/dining/movies is rare. Railway lounge access is a distinctive perk. Device protection + warranty extension genuinely useful for young users buying electronics.
  • No fee = no risk; keep card active just for the railway lounges
  • 2x bonus on 1st-5th of month is a fun gamification for groceries
  • Three variants let you match spend profile to reward structure
  • AU Bank's customer service rated better than many small-finance competitors

Where it falls short

  • 3.49% forex markup is standard, not concessional
  • Airport lounges (Ultra) now require 50K quarterly spend to unlock (tightened April 2026)
  • AU Small Finance Bank has smaller branch network than HDFC/ICICI
  • RP at ₹0.25 is below category leaders (SCB at ₹1, HDFC Infinia at transfer value)

Should you apply?

Apply if: You want a lifetime-free card with 3.75% on grocery/dining/movies; you travel by train occasionally (railway lounges); you're starting out and want a no-cost card. The basic variant is a no-brainer add.

Skip if: You want a premium primary card — Xcite is a supplementary card best-used for specific high-reward categories.

CSI Rating: 7.9 / 10 (basic Xcite, for the target user)

The bottom line

AU Bank Xcite is one of India's best lifetime-free credit card families. The basic variant alone is worth having just for the 3.75% grocery/dining/movies rate + railway lounges. The Ace variant gives cleaner 1-3% tiered cashback. The Ultra at 749 fee is worth it only for heavy online + international users. Start with the basic and upgrade if your spend profile justifies it.

Verified against AU Small Finance Bank's official SwipeUp product pages and April 2026 listings. New rule from 10 April 2026: Xcite Ultra domestic lounge access requires 50,000 prior-quarter spend.
