Best Airline Credit Card India 2026 — Indigo, SpiceJet, Air India + When to Use Each

Last verified: April 2026, against RBI’s current cobranded card framework, issuer T&C and airline-partner devaluations.

Airline cobranded cards offer mileage earn on spend + complimentary upgrades + lounge access, but only if you (1) fly the same airline 15+ times/year and (2) can extract value from airline miles before they devalue (they do). If you fly mixed airlines or fewer than 10 times/year, a general travel card (HDFC Infinia, Axis Magnus, Diners Black) or cashback card (HDFC Millennia) often wins on usability. This guide ranks the current airline cards and shows when each works.

The five airline cards in 2026 (simplified view)

Card Partner airline Earn on spends Annual fee Best for
HDFC Bank IndiGo IndiGo (6E) 1 mile per ₹1.5 on spends (0.67 miles/100) ₹999 IndiGo frequent flyers; 10+ flights/year
SBI Air India Air India 1 mile per ₹1 on spends (100 miles/100) ₹2,000 (waived ₹1L spends) Air India loyalists; heavy flyers (15+/year)
SpiceJet HDFC SpiceJet 2 miles per ₹1 on spends (200 miles/100) ₹999 SpiceJet frequent flyers; budget-conscious
Axis Bank Indigo IndiGo 1 mile per ₹1 on spends (100 miles/100) ₹499 (waived after 2 spends) IndiGo frequent flyers; cost-conscious
ICICI Bank Air India Air India 1.5 miles per ₹1 spends (150 miles/100) ₹1,500 Air India heavy flyers; 12+ flights/year

The air-travel opportunity in 2026 — why airline cards are risky

Airline miles devalue constantly. In 2022, an Air India mile was worth ₹0.75 on redemption; in 2024, ₹0.5; in early 2026, ₹0.35–₹0.4. Indigo miles have followed a similar slope. If you don’t redeem within 6–12 months of earning, the miles in your account lose 30–50% of value per year.

This means airline card earn rates are only valuable if you have a redemption plan immediately—i.e., you know you’ll book a flight in the next 3 months and have enough miles to cover it.
