Capital Gains Calculator

Compute STCG or LTCG tax on equity, mutual funds, property, and gold. The calculator auto-detects whether your holding qualifies as short-term or long-term, and for LTCG picks the lower of 12.5% (no indexation) vs 20% (with indexation) when grandfathering applies.

needed for indexation

Methodology (post Budget 2024 — Finance No. 2 Act 2024). Holding-period thresholds for long-term: listed equity/MF 12 months, property 24 months, others 36 months. Debt MF bought on/after 1 Apr 2023 is always taxed at slab rate regardless of holding period. STCG rates: equity 111A = 20% flat (up from 15%); others = slab rate. LTCG rates: equity 112A = 12.5% above ₹1.25L annual exemption; property/unlisted/gold = 12.5% no indexation, but for assets acquired BEFORE 23 July 2024, taxpayer may choose lower of 12.5% (no indexation) or 20% (with indexation using CII). 4% H&E Cess on all tax. Surcharge if total income exceeds ₹50L.
