Kerala in 7 days hits the sweet spot – long enough to see the four pillars (Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady, Alleppey) without feeling rushed, short enough that you can fit it into a regular leave window. Here’s how to actually plan it.

The Route

Fort Kochi (2N) – Munnar (2N) – Thekkady (1N) – Alleppey (1N houseboat) – Kochi airport. Total driving 12 hours spread across the trip, longest leg 4.5 hours (Munnar-Thekkady). All on excellent roads.

Day 1 – Arrive Kochi, Fort Kochi Explore

Land at COK midday. Pre-arranged taxi (Rs.800) to Fort Kochi. Check into a heritage homestay (Forest Walk Heritage Inn or similar). Afternoon: Chinese fishing nets at sunset, Vasco da Gama tomb at St Francis Church, Mattancherry Palace. Dinner at Kashi Art Cafe or Oceanos for seafood.

Day 2 – Kochi Culture Day

Morning Jew Town antiques, Paradesi Synagogue, spice market. Lunch at Ginger House (try the duck mappas). Afternoon Kathakali makeup demonstration (Kerala Kathakali Centre) followed by full performance 6-7:30 PM. Evening sunset boat ride.

Day 3 – Drive to Munnar (4 hours)

Depart Kochi 8 AM after breakfast. Lunch at Cheeyappara waterfall viewpoint or in Munnar town. Check in at hotel by 2 PM. Afternoon: Tata Tea Museum (Rs.150, 2 hours). Sunset at Echo Point.

Day 4 – Munnar Highlights

Early start (5 AM) for jeep to Kolukkumalai sunrise – world’s highest tea estate. Breakfast there. Return by 10. Eravikulam National Park (Nilgiri Tahr), Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake by lunch. Evening Kalaripayattu show.

Day 5 – Drive to Thekkady (3.5 hours)

Munnar to Thekkady via Kumily. Lunch in Kumily town. Afternoon: Periyar Lake boat safari (Rs.300 KTDC boat, 1.5 hours) – chance to see elephants, bisons, deer. Evening: spice plantation tour + dinner with a Kerala thali at Spice Village resort area.

Day 6 – Drive to Alleppey + Houseboat Check-in (3.5 hours)

Morning bamboo rafting at Periyar (Rs.2,000, 2.5 hours). Quick lunch and drive to Alleppey. Houseboat check-in at 12 noon (most operators). Lazy afternoon cruising backwaters. Houseboat lunch (fish moilee, rice, payasam). Sunset on the boat is unforgettable. Dinner on board, sleep moored at a quiet bank.

Day 7 – Houseboat to Airport

Houseboat breakfast 8 AM, disembark at Alleppey jetty 9 AM. Drive to Kochi airport (1.5 hours). Lunch in Cherthala if time. Fly out evening.

Best Time
