Leh Ladakh 7-Day Itinerary 2026 — Nubra, Pangong & Safe Acclimatisation
Leh-Ladakh is the ultimate Himalayan road trip — moonscapes, the world’s highest passes, turquoise lakes, and ancient monasteries. This detailed 7-day itinerary is designed around safe acclimatisation, so you enjoy the altitude instead of fighting it.
Best time & how to arrive
The season runs May to September (roads from Manali/Srinagar open; July–August are busiest). Flying into Leh (3,500m) is fastest but demands a strict rest day to acclimatise; driving up via Manali or Srinagar acclimatises you gradually. Either way, altitude management is the #1 priority.
Day-by-day plan
- Day 1 — Arrive Leh: Complete rest to acclimatise. Hydrate, no exertion.
- Day 2 — Leh local: Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, market; gentle day, still acclimatising.
- Day 3 — Sham Valley: Magnetic Hill, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Sangam (Indus-Zanskar confluence), Alchi/Likir monasteries.
- Day 4 — Nubra Valley: Cross Khardung La; Diskit Monastery and Hunder sand dunes (overnight Nubra).
- Day 5 — Nubra to Pangong: Scenic drive via Shyok to the famous blue Pangong Lake (overnight by the lake).
- Day 6 — Pangong to Leh: Return via Chang La; rest in Leh.
- Day 7 — Depart (or add Tso Moriri with extra days).
Permits & logistics
Inner Line Permits (for Indians) are required for Nubra, Pangong, and Tso Moriri — arranged easily in Leh or online. Carry multiple ID copies. Mobile networks are limited (postpaid only, BSNL/Jio work best); download offline maps.
Altitude & safety
- Take the first day fully off — don’t skip acclimatisation.
- Hydrate well; avoid alcohol and heavy exertion early.
- Carry Diamox only after consulting a doctor; know AMS symptoms.
- Fuel up — petrol pumps are sparse beyond Leh.
- Carry warm layers even in summer; nights are freezing.
Budget
A 7-day trip runs roughly ₹25,000–45,000 per person (shared cab/bike, guesthouses, food, permits) excluding flights. Bike rentals and private cabs add up; sharing brings costs down.
FAQs
Is 7 days enough for Ladakh? Yes for Leh, Nubra, and Pangong with safe acclimatisation. Add days for Tso Moriri or Hanle.
Fly or drive to Leh? Driving acclimatises you better; flying saves time but needs a strict rest day.
